While the full magic of a Somatic Session is in the combination of Talk, Touch, and Breath, each modality can also be explored on its own.

Each session is uniquely tailored to support your healing, meeting you where you are at.

What Happens in a Somatic Session

Somatic Sessions are flexible and responsive. Each session unfolds according to your needs — and may include:

Each Somatic Session begins with Compassionate Inquiry — a grounded, talk-based process that helps us explore the emotional and behavioural patterns shaping your current experience.

Rather than viewing symptoms like anxiety, addiction, or depression as disorders, we approach them as coping strategies that make sense in the context of your life. Together, we trace these patterns back to early experiences, focusing on how they affect your life today, what purpose they serve — and where they live in the body.

From there, we move into guided breathwork to embody insight and regulate the nervous system.

After grounding through Compassionate Inquiry, we shift into guided breathwork — a form of physical meditation that helps you connect with sensation, emotion, and energy stored in the body.

Breathwork gives us access to the nervous system, supporting emotional release, reducing anxiety, improving mood, bringing clarity, and helping regulate overwhelm. Whether you’re holding trauma, tension, or mental fatigue, breath allows you to process it physically.

This touch-based bodywork is integrated within Somatic Sessions to support the physical release of tension and emotion stored in the body. It works with pressure points in the muscles and fascia to help regulate the nervous system and support deeper embodiment.

Somatic (body-based) modalities

TRE is a set of exercises and postures designed to bring the body into a state of involuntary shaking (or tremors). This movement of the body, is actually the body releasing trauma (stress, unprocessed emotions) that we hold in the body. In addition to its use in my practice, it is a skill that you can learn (just like breathwork) that you can take into your daily life to support your healing.

Ice plunging, in addition to supporting our health and nervous system in ways similar to breathwork (especially alongside the breath) it can aide in the reduction of inflammation, burn fat, aide sleep and recovery. Cold plunging has been proven to provide a 2.5x dopamine hit, similar to cocaine, but unlike the popular party drug, the dopamine hit lasts 3-4 hours, as opposed to just 10 minutes. Not to mention the affects on the body and mind.

Finally, as a daily practice, one thing I have noticed is that getting in the cold water does not get easier, it sucks every time. A lot of the things that are good for us are unpleasant, in my daily practice my mind goes to all sorts of places to keep me out of the cold. A lesson I have learnt is that we are not our thoughts, or our feelings (especially the ones that try to keep me from the water). This lesson has been crystallised for me by this daily routine, despite my thoughts trying to intervene I get in the water everyday and the results have been remarkable.

SE, a program created by Dr Peter Levine is a set of body-based tools designed to return the nervous system to a regulated baseline state, release trauma and even process panic attacks. It is also a set of techniques that function as a skill that you can learn and take home with you.
